Downtown Development Authority / Main Street Program

Overview

The Downtown Development Authority/Main Street Program oversees a 12 block downtown area which includes the historic business district and the city center. Many of Historic Downtown Hartwell's attractive buildings were constructed from1879 to 1925, adding to the overall charm of the city, and county seat for Hart County. Hartwell has been an accredited DCA 'Main Street' City since 1997.

Vision Statement

Hartwell Main Street/ Downtown Development Authority Vision Statement:

"To work together to revitalize, promote, beautify downtown Hartwell as the viable hub of our community. This will provide for feasible preservation of our historic and natural resources, encourage quality growth and economic prosperity,and further maintain our small town experience. Through this we will be responsible stewards to enhance our quality of life and retain our sense of community."

Many local businesses support the work and mission of the organization through donations which are greatly appreciated, understanding the importance of revitalizing and maintaining the community's commerce center and 'sense of place'.
